Market introduction
The textile industry holds a pivotal role in Pakistan's economy, driving significant growth and development. Ranked fourth in global cotton production and ninth in textile exports, it stands as a critical economic pillar. Encompassing the entire value chain from cotton cultivation and processing to the creation of finished goods like fabrics and apparel, this sector is of immense importance.

An important aspect of the textile industry is its substantial impact on employment and value-added products. Approximately 40% of the country's industrial workforce is employed in this sector, providing livelihoods for many. Moreover, it contributes nearly a quarter of the industrial value-added products and constitutes an average of 60% of national exports.

As per the textile policy, the industry comprises 13.41 million spindles, 198,801 rotors, 375,000 power looms, and 28,500 shuttleless looms. As of June 2021, it comprises 517 textile units, including 40 composite units and 477 spinning units. Yarn production has been increasing, reaching approximately 3.441 billion Kgs in FY 2020-21. The global textile market, valued at $1 trillion in 2020, is anticipated to grow to $1.5 trillion by 2027 at a CAGR of 4.3% from 2020-2027.

Pakistan's complete textiles value chain sets it apart, particularly with cities like Lahore, Faisalabad, and Karachi acting as major industry hubs. The country boasts robust infrastructure encompassing spinning units, weaving facilities, dyeing and finishing plants, and stitching machines. Its extensive capacity in yarn production, including filament and synthetic fibers, further fortifies the industry.

Pakistan's textile exports have significantly boosted the economy and overall export growth. In the initial quarter of FY2018, textile exports surged by 7.91%, propelling overall exports from $4.7 billion to $5.2 billion. This consistent performance underscores the industry's contribution to export earnings.

The country's textile exports have seen continuous growth, achieving a record high of $19.33 billion in fiscal year 2021/2022. During this period, textile exports accounted for around 61% of the total exports, highlighting its crucial role in international trade. The presence of renowned global brands like H&M, Levi’s, Nike, and Adidas collaborating with local textile mills underscores the industry’s global recognition and market reach.

With abundant cotton resources, robust infrastructure, and an expanding international presence, Pakistan's textile industry continues to flourish, playing a pivotal role in the nation's economic development and global competitiveness.
